Frequently Asked Questions
Does your deodorant actually work?
Yes! It was made by West End performers, Ed Currie and Andy Coxon, and tested for its effectiveness on over 1,000 performers in West End productions.
Don’t just listen to us. We’ve received many industry awards from the likes of Stylist, Harper’s Bazaar and The Evening Standard. We’ve also received over 5,000 reviews!
What’s the difference between Deodorant and Antiperspirant?
Antiperspirant contains Aluminium Chlorohydrate, which blocks your sweat ducts to stop you sweating. This ingredient has come under a lot of fire recently with supposed links to cancer and Alzheimer’s disease. The aluminium in antiperspirant is what causes that white/yellow stain on your clothing also.
Deodorant eliminates odours associated with sweat and absorbs natural perspiration to keep you feeling dry.
Will AKT stop me sweating?
Our formulation contains no aluminium chlorohydrate so will not block your sweat ducts to stop you sweating. However, our formula contains Deo-Barrier Complex™️ to absorb your natural perspiration to keep you feeling dry and fresh all day.
How do I open it?
- Full-sized tubes (50 ml): Unscrew the cap and pierce the seal of the tube yourself. They recommend using a pen.
- Mini tubes (5 ml): Break off the nozzle, then flip it and use it as a plug to reseal the tube.
Is it sticky and will it stick to my hairs?
No. The Deodorant Balm absorbs instantly into your skin while applying. No stickiness, no tackiness, no more waiting around for your roll-on to dry.
It will feel like there’s nothing there… even if you’re hairy.
Does it take time to adjust after I switch deodorant?
Although this is uncommon with AKT, there could be a “transition/detox period.” Essentially your underarms are cleansing themselves from the years of use of antiperspirants, which have been blocking your sweat glands.
But don’t be alarmed — the transition is usually short, although in some cases it can take up to 30 days for your body to regulate itself.
Can I take AKT onboard an aircraft?
Yes. One tube is 50 ml (threshold is 100 ml). It also fits neatly into those tiny transparent bags airlines love to give you, without taking up much room (unlike awkward aerosols and roll-ons).
How often should I apply AKT and how long does a tube last?
Our starting recommendation is a pea-size amount to each underarm once a day, preferably on freshly showered skin.
One tube lasts 6 weeks on average, and is delivered every 6 weeks via subscription. You can customise how frequently it’s delivered.
Is aluminium packaging safe?
Yes — aluminium metal is safe. They make the distinction between aluminium metal (which is used in their packaging) and aluminium compounds used in antiperspirants.
Is your packaging really Plastic Free and 100% Recyclable?
Yes! Their tubes are made of aluminium and are infinitely recyclable without losing quality. So the tube can have a second life (e.g., become part of another aluminium product).
They don’t use any plastics in their packaging — including bespoke aluminium caps instead of plastic ones.
What ingredients are used?
- Coconut Oil & Shea Butter: Moisturise and leave skin feeling soft and nourished.
- Deo-Barrier Complex™️: A blend of natural plant and mineral powders (such as diatomaceous earth) that rest invisibly on the skin to deodorise and absorb perspiration without staining clothes.
- Calendula Oil: Has anti-inflammatory properties to soothe skin (e.g. after shaving).
- Fragrance: A mix of natural and synthetically made notes to replicate natural molecular structure. They chose this over 100% essential oils due to allergen content concerns.
Does AKT test on animals?
No. They only test on willing professional dancers and athletes to ensure efficacy.
Are your products really plastic free?
Yes. No plastic in the packaging, no lamination on boxes, fully recyclable aluminium tubes and caps, no plastic tape on shipping boxes.
Where is The Deodorant Balm made?
In their factory in the UK.
Is The Deodorant Balm okay for my sensitive skin?
Yes. They conducted clinical trials. However, underarm skin can be sensitive — if you experience a rash, you should stop use. Some may react to fragrance allergens.
They offer a fragrance-free version (SC.00 No Notes) for especially sensitive users.
Why does The Deodorant Balm feel grainy?
The newer formula can feel grainy in colder weather due to “winterisation” of some oils and butters (e.g. Shea Butter).
Those grains dissolve into your skin when warmed by your fingers or massaged in. The graininess does not affect performance.
Why should I use a natural deodorant?
- No stains — better for clothing longevity.
- Nourishing and moisturizing ingredients rather than drying the skin.
- One application can last all day, even through workouts.
- Non-polluting — no aerosols.
- Fully plastic-free and recyclable packaging.
- Efficacy tested (on dancers, athletes) rather than relying on chemicals.
Can I really use AKT anywhere on the body?
Yes — on feet, forehead, chest, basically anywhere you need protection. On some theatre/film sets, they use AKT under makeup to prevent shine under hot lights.
⚠️But: Do not apply to intimate areas. External use only. Keep away from eyes.
Can children and teens use AKT?
Yes, for ages 10 and up. Many users in that group already use it. However, do a patch test first, as young skin can be more reactive.
Can I apply AKT after shaving?
Yes, but with caution. Underarms are more sensitive immediately after shaving. They recommend shaving the night before, then applying AKT in the morning. They also include calendula oil in formula to help with skin recovery.
